Cebu is a province of the Philippines, in the country’s Central Visayas region, comprising Cebu Island and more than 150 smaller surrounding islands and islets.
Its prosperous port capital, Cebu City, retains landmarks from its 16th-century Spanish colonial past, including the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño church and triangular Fort San Pedro. Tops, an observation deck on Mt. Busay, has sweeping views over the city.
Best Adventure Activities in Cebu, Philippine
In this article, we are going to uncover all about Cebu best activities and spots. There have been claims saying that Cebu offers adrenaline rush to those who seek it and it is true.
With activities from swimming with sharks, scenic hiking, sardine run, and canyoneering, the excitement is worth every penny spent. Untouched nature with their humble and down to earth people are just amazing.
1. Swimming with whale sharks
Swimming with Whale Sharks is the number one attraction on Cebu. In Oslob, you can get in the water and witness these graceful giants swim by. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this tourist attraction as many people believe that humans shouldn’t interfere with the animals feeding patterns.
At Oslob, the Whale Sharks are fed plankton, which is how they can guarantee you will see the Whale Sharks.
2. Canyoneering at Kawasan Falls
Canyoneering through the Gatorade blue waters all the way down the canyons into Kawasan Falls is one of the most popular tourist activities on the island. Thousands of tourists participate in the adventure every day. It’s definitely worth every penny and the crowds but it definitely is the biggest adventure you can do on Cebu.
The canyoneering starts in the jungle and you will wear a helmet and a life vest. Accompanied by a guide you will jump into the water and begin floating down the canyon. This goes on for the best part of 2 hours as you float, jump and climb your way down to Kawasan Falls.
The biggest jump was 50ft but it was optional. The biggest jump that was required to continue the journey downstream was only a few meters. Halfway through the floating and swimming comes to an end more or less and you begin to trek through the water and the jungle. It is quite an immersive experience but still quite safe.
Finally, you will end up at Kawasan Falls. Here you finish the experience with a big jump from the top of the waterfall. Note that you don’t have to jump you can walk down quite easily but it is the tradition to finish with the jump. Now you can enjoy Kawasan Falls and have a rest!
If you prefer not to do the canyoneering you can just walk to Kawasan Falls at the base and enjoy it from there. It is definitely the most crowded waterfall on Cebu with lots of food outlets, umbrellas and touristy action going on. It’s definitely one of the most popular waterfalls on Cebu but it is worth battling the crowds!
3. Kawasan Falls
Surrounded by thick foliage and gorgeous limestone rock formations peering through, Kawasan cascades mightily into an alluring natural pool 131 feet down below. Its unbelievably light blue color looks like that of your typical swimming pool, which is amazing. Most waterfall pools I’ve seen either have a greenish or a really dark shade.
The water is very inviting and swimming in it was extremely refreshing. If you want a “waterfall massage,” there are rafts for rent (Php 300 to Php 500) that will take you directly under the cascade. It sure was fun watching the expressions on the faces of those who did.
4. Countryside tour with special motorbike
In this trip, you will see the countryside with special motorbike in Cebu. The villager’s day to day activities, their homes, their way of life, their economy, educations, facilities and it is rather enjoyable and fun. Going through all these from a special motorbike is just something incredible and rare.
5. Osmena Peak – Watching Sunrise
The Peak is known for having amazing panoramic views across jagged cliff lines and the ocean. We were told it would be best for sunrise and we were left speechless by the scene from the summit of the short 20-minute trek.
There is an entrance fee of a few dollars to the hike, which comes with a guide who you can choose to tip and of course the cost of the motorbike. It is quite a cheap adventure and an amazing sunrise experience.
6. Tumalog Falls
Tumalog falls on Cebu Island is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Philippines. The turquoise waters of the falls aren’t quite as vibrant as at Kawasan falls, but the sheer size of the waterfall makes it an incredible place to visit.
Due to the somewhat remote location of Tumalog falls in South Cebu it was only discovered in 2012, but thankfully the waterfall is now easily accessible by road. It’s a great place to adventure to as part of a day trip discovering the amazing waterfalls of South Cebu.
7. Sardine run at Moalboal
One of the coolest things to do on Cebu is to head down to Moalboal and get amongst the diving scene. The big attraction at Moalboal is the sardine run. A sardine run is a collection of thousands of sardines that all swim together in unison. When you dive down they move as a collective this way and that way in what is an incredible dance.
The best part about this activity is that it is only 30-meters from the shore. It’s definitely one of the most unique things to do on Cebu so don’t miss this one.
8. Sumilon island hopping
The island is only a 15-20 minute boat ride from Oslob. A group of holiday-makers played in the water and their kids were having the time of life. The sand was some of the whitest seen so far in the Philippines and contrasted beautifully against the clear water and surrounding reefs.
This is a great spot to hang out for the afternoon with a bunch of friends. You feel like you are in the middle of the ocean, totally isolated and separated from all of the commotions back on Cebu.
